Dementia care

Dementia is a complex condition characterised by a decline in memory and cognitive function due to brain disease, leading to significant impairment in various aspects of an individual’s life. The effects of dementia encompass memory loss, thinking abilities, language skills, and more, often resulting in a gradual and progressive decline. Alzheimer’s disease stands as the most prevalent form of dementia. While most dementia care is undertaken by family members, the challenges and demands of caregiving can be both fulfilling and taxing.

R

Family caregiver's role

Care begins with family support, from emotional comfort to physical aid. Caregivers adapt to evolving needs, assisting with tasks and companionship as dementia progresses.

R

Balancing rewards and challenges

Caregiving offers fulfillment alongside stress, with duties ranging from simple companionship to complex care. As demands grow, transitioning to professional care becomes vital.

R

Professional care transition

Trained caregivers step in when family caregivers face limitations. Specialized in dementia care, they ensure professional support at home, easing the burden on families.

Our caregivers receive continuous training from Jennifer Howorth, director of Alzheimer’s South Africa – Southern Cape region. This ensures quality care, granting both individuals with dementia and families peace of mind.

Tracey

I just want to take this opportunity to thank you and your wonderful team for taking such great care of my dad these last 8 months. You have all really gone out of your way to accommodate my dad and to make sure that he is healthy and comfortable. Thank you so much. I really don’t know what we would have done without you.

I wish to thank you and your staff for the care and love you gave to my mom. She was happy, comfortable, cared for and loved in the safe space of a home from home where I always felt welcome. Thank you for listening when I was concerned or sad and laughing with me a lot. Thanks for making the great grandchildren feel welcome too, they loved coming to visit where aside from a big granny hug there was sure to be a biscuit and some fish to feed.  Bonus if kitty was visiting too.
